ESOMAT 2027 takes place in Bochum, in the middle of the Ruhr, Germany's largest metropolitan region. Once a centre of coal and steel, the city is now home to Ruhr-Universität Bochum and a research community with a long record in shape memory alloys and martensite. Between sessions there is the German Mining Museum, the Jahrhunderthalle, and a compact, walkable centre.

Bochum sits in the Ruhr metropolitan region. Bochum Hauptbahnhof is on the national ICE and IC network, and the U35 CampusLinie reaches Ruhr-Universität Bochum in under ten minutes. Düsseldorf Airport is about half an hour away by train.
ICE and IC trains call at Bochum Hauptbahnhof. From there the U35 CampusLinie reaches the campus in under ten minutes. DB Event Tickets are available for participants.
Nearest hub: Düsseldorf (DUS), about 30 minutes by direct train to Bochum Hauptbahnhof. Dortmund (DTM) and Cologne/Bonn (CGN) are also close; Frankfurt (FRA) for intercontinental arrivals.
The A40, A43 and A44 meet at Bochum. City parking runs about €1 to €3 per hour. On campus, use the free P20 (East) and P12/P13 (West) garages while the central garage is renovated.
The U35 tram links the main station, the campus and the city centre. Most hotels are a short ride from both.
Bochum has a wide range of hotels, most a short U35 ride from the campus. The DGM holds no room contingent, so book directly and early.
